~直す
Do something again to correct it
You'll be able to say that an action is repeated because the first attempt needs correcting.

芽衣は名前を書き直します。
mei wa namae o kakinaoshimasu.
What do you think this sentence means?
Mei rewrites her name.
Do something again to improve it
~直す means doing an action again to correct, revise, or improve it. It adds a reason for repetition that a plain “again” does not necessarily express.

Form and use ~直す
Remove ます and add 直す. This works naturally with revisable actions such as writing, reading again to check, or making something again; it is not a mechanical suffix for every verb.
