Pair せっかく with the right follow-up
Place せっかく before the effort or chance you want to highlight. Verbs and い-adjectives connect in plain form. With a noun, say せっかくの + noun, then なのに or だから: せっかくの休みなのに, せっかくの休みだから. Use ~のに when the effort or chance is wasted; use ~から or ~だから when you want to make good use of it.
