Pick the number-one item inside a group
Use ～の中で to define the group, then 一番 to say which member has the highest degree of a quality.
果物の中で、いちごが一番好きです。
kudamono no naka de, ichigo ga ichiban suki desu.
Of all fruits, I like strawberries the most.
Group + の中で + item + が一番
State the comparison group first, then mark the top item with が and add 一番 before the adjective or preference expression.
クラスの中で、田中さんが一番背が高いです。
kurasu no naka de, tanaka-san ga ichiban se ga takai desu.
Tanaka is the tallest in the class.
日本料理の中で、ラーメンが一番好きです。
nihon ryouri no naka de, raamen ga ichiban suki desu.

Replace the item with a question word such as 何, 誰, or どれ.

より weighs exactly two things against each other. 一番 picks the top item out of a whole group.
