これは私わたしのかばんじゃない。

kore wa watashi no kaban janai.

What do you think this sentence means?

This isn’t my bag.

Why it means that

Make a plain negative noun or な-adjective statement

じゃない and ではない both mean “is not” in plain style. じゃない is most common in everyday conversation. ではない sounds more formal, written, or deliberate, but it is not polite.

Examples

今日きょうは休やすみじゃない。

kyou wa yasumi janai.

Today is not a day off.

彼かれは学生がくせいではない。

kare wa gakusei dewa nai.

He is not a student.

How it is built

Use じゃない in conversation

Attach じゃない after a noun or な-adjective for a casual negative statement.
